Nigeria’s former ambassador to Burundi, Amb Elijah C. Onyeagba PhD was appointed by the Nigerian High Commission as one of the observers for the Ghana 2024 elections held on 7 December 2024 to elect the president and members of Parliament. The election had about 17 million registered voters are expected to cast their ballots across 40,976 polling stations in 276 constituencies.
Amb. Onyeagba had served as Nigeria’s ambassador to Burundi for two (2) years gaining national recognition as one of the best performed ambassador under the former administration and a contributes immensely to national and foreign policies of president Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.
During the Ghana election, he provided on ground report of the election process to give the global observers a firsthand assessment of the exercise. As a distinguished an Economist with MBA in Finance and close to two decades experience in commercial, corporate, retail, mortgage banking, real estate, research, marketing and leadership. He is an expert in the structuring and advisory on construction finance deals with specialty in residential/affordable housing projects. He was recently inducted as a Fellow of the Institute of Public Relations.
The election which was lauded as transparent, free and fair, leading to the emergence of Ghana’s former President John Mahama of the National Democratic Congress becoming the winner after defeating the ruling party. Some of those who applauded the outcome of the election included Nigeria’s president, Bola Tinubu, former vice president Namadi Sambo, who was an observer.
