President Tinubu again shows his gusto for greater inclusion of young people in governance and his determination to bring onboard vibrant, energetic and innovation minded technocrats to steer his Renewed Hope agenda. This comes to bear as his appoints Kano born Electrical Engineer and one of the youngest local government administrators, Engr Abdullahi Ramat to lead the Nigeria’s central regulatory body, Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) as its chairman.
The former Ungogo local government chairman in Kano state served as one of the youngest local government administrators from 2021 to2024 and engineered progressive economic development in the locality with over 300,000 inhabitants. Among his many achievements are implementation of a cloud-based Enterprise Resource Planning system that increased internally generated revenue by over 300% and championed Nigeria’s first blockchain-based decentralised e-identity system, facilitating the issuance of tamper-proof indigene and resident ID cards in Ungogo LGA.
Before his entrance into politics, he cut his teeth in private sector driving engineering technology based solutions for government and corporate entities through his company known as AG Ramat Global Link Ltd.
Engr Ramat is an electrical engineer with his first degree from Bayero University Kano with PhD in Strategic Management from Lincoln University and executive certifications from top institutions including Big Data Analytics, Civil Engagement from Harvard University, Workshop Administration from Google, Azure Solutions Expert from Microsoft, and Power Transmission and Distribution Systems from Gonzaga University.
His professional stint spans beyond electrical engineering but an extensive experience in using technology to provide engineering solutions as relates to electricity generation, transmission and distribution.
As he awaits the confirmation by the Nigerian senate, it is no doubt that president Tinubu’s choice of a young, innovative politician cum technocrat at the helm of the country’s central electricity regulatory commission poses optimism in the delivery of the Renewed Hope promise to Nigerians.
